Audubon Bird Murals Walking Tour

Audubon Bird Murals Walking Tour

Day: Sunday, September 23 (Rescheduled date)
Time: 10am
Location: Meeting at Hamilton’s Bakery, 3570 Broadway (between 146 and 147)
Cost: Free
Trains: 1 train to 145 St or A or C train to 145 St

Description:
The Audubon Bird Murals Project is an exciting effort to create murals of over 300 North American birds in the Upper Manhattan neighborhoods of Hamilton Heights and Washington Heights. Since all of the birds painted are threatened by climate change, the Murals Project is designed not only to help us appreciate the beauty of the birds, but also to make us aware of the challenges that they face.

We will walk along Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue between 147th and 157th Streets. The great naturalist James John Audubon lived the last 10 years of his life in this area. In addition to seeing about 30 murals, we will visit Audubon’s impressive gravesite in the Trinity Church Cemetery. The walk will end at the #1 subway stop at Broadway and 157th Street.

Binoculars will be an asset on this walk if you wish to bring your own.

Coffee, delicious pastries, and a restroom are available at Hamilton’s Bakery. Walk will last about two hours.
